Today, no hospital can be imagined without a centralized medical gas supply system. This system works on the principle of storage or production of large volumes of gas, its distribution and transportation to end consumers. Depending on the functional purpose of the premises of the healthcare institution, gas mixtures are delivered to the workplace of medical personnel or to the patient’s bed using wall and ceiling consoles equipped with outlets for quick connectors of medical gases.

Different countries have adopted their own standards for gas valves. At the moment, DIN 13260-2 standard connectors are most often used in Russia. They are convenient, reliable and, as practice shows, durable. Importantly, DIN connectors compatible with any type of compressor and resuscitation equipment. This significantly affects the speed of medical care for patients in emergency cases. These gas valves for supplying oxygen, vacuum, compressed air, nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide are equipped with domestic-made medical wall and ceiling consoles CADUCEUS (CADUCEUS), supplied to the healthcare institutions of our country.

The medical gas connectors are made with design features for each individual gas type, which eliminates erroneous connection, and are marked with a different color. They provide a tight connection to the corresponding plug and act as an automatic shutter when disconnected from it. Depending on the technical capabilities and individual needs of the medical institution, the connectors can be made in several versions, differing in the way they are attached and connected to the central medical gas supply system.

Important devices for operating rooms are the AGSS and AIR-Motor connectors, also mounted on CADUCEUS wall and ceiling consoles. The AGSS connector is used to discharge anesthetic gases and has a check valve, which eliminates the risk of backflow. The AIR-Motor dual-circuit connector allows the supply of compressed air for the operation of the pneumatic tool along the valve’s internal circuit, and exhaust gas to the ventilation duct along the external circuit.
