Needleless injection and a look into the future of medicine

Companies focused on the production of a cheaper and more compact equipment.

Medical industry complain about the complicated process of certification of medical equipment. Critics argue that it impedes innovation. To change this perception, the US Office of FDA in 2015 announced a simplification of the process of designing and testing new technologies. With the participation of industry, government and other non-profit organizations, public and private services will develop simplified rules for licensing of medical equipment.

We present some interesting innovations:

1. A biopsy and excision of melanoma

The most deadly form of skin cancer is melanoma. Its diagnosis can be confirmed by biopsy. Among the huge number of moles only a small part of them is malignant. Today, dermatologists have adopted the right tactics treatment - hand tools approved by the FDA for the multispectral analysis of tissues. Optical scanner does not produce a definitive diagnosis, but rather, provides additional information on the basis of which the physician determines the need for a biopsy. Instrument’s purpose is to reduce the number of unnecessary biopsy procedures (which results in scars and economic difficulties). The device scans the surface of the electromagnetic waves. The collected signals are processed on the patient monitor and compared with 10,000 digital images of melanoma and skin diseases in the registry.

2. Electronic analgesic

The method "take two aspirin and call again" is useless for people who suffer from migraine headaches, and other chronic cephalgias. It has long found reasons for persistent headaches - pterygopalatine node lesions or facial nerve, but long-term treatment is not yet decided. There was investigated the influence of the autonomic innervation in a clinical study of Technologies, Inc.– the way of blocking impulses from the pterygopalatine node. The system includes a permanent implant - it is a small nerve-stimulating device near the trigger point. In the event of pathological impulses the patient remotely activates the implant. Information may also be sent to the patient terminal.

3. Needleless treatment of diabetes

Diabetes treatment is painful - all these daily blood sugar tests and insulin injections. This leads to the risk of infectious complications, neurosis, dermatitis. To date, a continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pumps are the best treatment option for diabetes - but they do not completely eliminate the need for injections. Echo Therapeutics is working on a transdermal biosensor that analyzes the blood sample percutaneously without a fence. The device is similar to the electric toothbrush, which sufficiently includes a portable electric tooth brush-like device that removes dead epithelial scans and blood composition. The sensor makes one measurement per minute and sends the information to a remote analyzer to the patient terminal. Same way the sugar curve monitoring can occur during all 24 hours continuously.

It will also be useful to learn about the new mini-monitor and patient programs on correlation of doses. Selection of doses of insulin remains a problem for 82% of patients in the first year. The program with a portable patient monitor assess glucose values and calculates the individual plan of insulin administration. In addition, indications of skipping doses are sent to the base site where the attending doctor can get acquainted with the course of treatment, or to analyze the reasons for patient’s rejection of insulin.

4. Doctor the Robot

The main purpose of medicine is the availability of the latest technology for all segments of the population. Developed advisory system, linking rural and remote clinic with major clinical centers. So doctors have the opportunity to instant access to major centers and advisory services specialists databases.

Telemedicine is well known as a tool for sorting and evaluation in emergencies, but new medical robots one step ahead of this technology. 5. The heart valve

Transcatheter aortic valve is an alternative to conventional prostheses for patients with weakened immune systems. The valve is directed through the femoral artery via a catheter into the chest. Valve Material is a bovine tissue on a stainless steel frame, same frame is expanded by inflating a small balloon placed in the center. The valve shortens the time of surgery, postoperative rehabilitation and hospital stay, which has a positive effect on maintenance costs.
